Roemheld launches magnetic clamping for die casting up to 230°C


Roemheld has launched a new M-TECS magnetic clamping system specially designed for die casting machines, which is stable up to temperatures of 230°C. It is suitable for both horizontal and vertical machines and is available with or without the integral heating plate.

Because the M-TECS 210 system is stable up to 230°C, it largely covers the whole temperature range that may occur in the die casting industry. Additional benefits include no downtime for heating up or cooling down in the press, a shorter stay in the hot area with less burning, no T-slot between the heating plate and the die, and more homogeneous temperatures inside the die.

The M-TECS system from Roemheld helps reduce downtimes, lower set-up costs and increase productivity. The reduced set-up times allow small batches to be processed and it offers safe and effortless handling for operators.

Permanent monitoring of the clamped condition, the temperature and the mould position in automatic operation ensure maximum safety. The electrical permanent magnet clamping system is firmly kept in place even in the case of a power failure. Electricity is required for just 1 or 2 seconds to first magnetise (clamp) the system. In operation, the system works independently of any power source and electricity is only needed again for unclamping. The slightest movement of one half of the die causes the machine to stop for guaranteed safety. An indicator lamp on the remote pendant constantly signals the actual condition of the system.

The M-TECS system uses a very flat, strong magnetic field to generate magnetic force. It penetrates the die base plate by just a few millimetres and therefore has no impact on the workpiece. Magnetic forces between 2 and 5 kg/cm² can be attained, depending on the surface - the larger the die the higher the magnetic forces. Clamping forces of e.g. 500, 1000 or 2000 kN can be achieved and these can be adapted to suit the needs of the machine.

The design of the magnetic plates is flexible, and the size and shape can be determined to suit customers'requirements. The Roemheld M-TECS magnetic clamping system is suitable for fitting onto existing die casting machines or incorporating into new ones. The plates have thicknesses of about 55mm and additional holes for ejector, centring rings/positioning pins as well as clearance holes for punchings (metal forming) can be easily integrated. In addition, there are no limits on the geometrical shape of the magnetic plates.

Dies, even if not standardised, can be easily and swiftly changed. Since the clamping force is evenly distributed all over the clamping surface, it ensures low-distortion clamping, which results in higher product quality and reduced tool wear. With no moving parts, the system is basically maintenance-free. The patented M-TECS concentration effect also makes the system much stronger than any comparable magnetic plates.
